“Grace made it possible for me to speak about certain sensitive things without shame or judgment for the first time, which made it possible for me to connect with my wife by talking about these same things.”

FAQs

How much does therapy cost?

Our session fee at Third Culture Counseling is $155. This applies to all types of therapy, meaning that the fee remains the same for couples, groups, and individuals. We try to keep our rates fair and attainable since we are aware that therapy is a costly endeavor in resources including time, emotional vulnerability, and money.

We do also offer a few sliding scale slots. If you are interested in this and believe you may qualify, please inquire via email at hello@thirdculturetherapybham.com to see if there are open slots.

How do I know if I’m ready for therapy?

Being ‘ready for therapy’ doesn’t always look like one thing. Readiness comes in many forms. Sometimes, readiness is the desire to be seen and understood, even if you aren’t entirely sure how to go about it. In relationships, readiness may look like having reached the end of your rope and feeling uncertain of how to break out of relational pattern gridlock.

As long as you are willing to be open and vulnerable with yourself, you are most likely ready for therapy. We also offer free 15-minute consultation phone calls to address any specific concerns or questions you may have about the therapeutic process.

Do you accept insurance?

Short answer: No, we are a private-pay practice only.

Long answer: Most insurance providers do not cover relational therapy, and we do our best to keep our rates reasonable to ensure clients can attend without additional strain. Choosing to operate independently empowers us to work without the session limitations, diagnosis expectations, and potential HIPAA non-concordance that can often come with accepting insurance.

At clients’ request, we will provide superbills which clients can submit to their insurance. Many clients have over 60% of their therapy costs reimbursed through superbilling if they have met their deductibles. It is up to our clients’ discretion to submit superbills to their insurance for reimbursement, which would then release their confidential information to their insurance company. We do not communicate at all with insurance companies and we do not allow single-case agreements.

What is an AI-free practice?

Our decision to keep AI out of our therapy practice is a values-based one, and not a judgement or condemnation. We believe that like any tool, AI can be used for great things. However, within the work that we do, we feel that a person-centric approach is necessary to providing the best client care.

When effective, talk therapy is an intervention that can help us feel seen, understood, and better connected to ourselves and others on an intimate, personal level, and we believe our operations should reflect this. That means our website, blog, and social media content is all written by our therapist, Grace, and every correspondence is being read and responded to by Grace as well.

We also do not use AI software when recording client notes or creating client treatment plans and instead utilize supervision, consultation, and research to create informed, humanistic determination.
